Ordering and activating debit cards

Add physical and virtual debit cards to your Banqup Business Account for convenient spending, cash withdrawals, and better expense management. Here's how to get started with your first card.

Ordering a debit card

  1. Click Add card.

  2. Select card type:

    • Physical card for in-store and online purchases.

    • Virtual card for online transactions.

  3. Choose your Banqup Business Account.

  4. Name your card for easy identification.

  5. Select the card holder. This option allows you to order a debit card for another user of your space. If a user is greyed out and can't be selected, it means they don't have the card holder role. Read here how to edit user roles.

  6. (For physical cards only) Choose where we should deliver your card.

  7. Review and accept the costs.

  8. Click Add card to finalise your order.

Should I choose a physical or virtual debit card

Why choose a physical debit card

You should choose a physical Banqup debit card if you plan on making in-store purchases. Your Banqup debit card also supports:

  • Online payments

  • Cash withdrawal

  • In-store, contactless payments

Why choose a virtual debit card

You should choose a virtual Banqup debit card if you plan on making online purchases exclusively. It comes in handy to create virtual debit cards for employees in order to be able to track who made specific purchases; or you can create different cards for different purposes. Creating a virtual Banqup debit card makes it available instantly.

Set your PIN for your physical card)

You need to set a PIN code for physical debit cards.

  1. Go to Cards and select your new card (with the Activate status).

  2. Choose Set PIN and follow the instructions.

    • If you ordered the card yourself, you can set the PIN immediately.

    • If your card was ordered by someone else (e.g. an admin), you’ll be prompted to set the PIN when you first open the card.

Tips

  • You can view your PIN later in the Banqup app after a biometric check. If you enter the wrong PIN three times, you can reset the PIN counter in the app, then make a contact (chip) payment next time to resync the card.

  • Keep in mind that the PIN code cannot contain sequential numbers (1-2-3-4 or 4-3-2-1 etc.) or repeated numbers (1-1-1-1 or 2-2-2-2 etc.).

Activate your physical card

To confirm you physically hold the card, you need to activate it by entering its number and CVV.

  1. Go to Cards and click on your new card to open it (its status should be Activate).

  2. Click Activate card.

  3. Enter the full card number and the 3-digit CVV from the physical card. Then, click on Activate Card.

  4. Your card is ready to use.

After activation

  • Contactless is on by default. You can pay contactless up to local limits.

  • You can also use the card online (e-commerce).

  • If you added spending controls (limits, regions, e-commerce or contactless toggles), they apply immediately.

Important notes

  • You can create unlimited* virtual cards.

  • You can order extra physical cards for an extra cost.

  • Cards are always linked to your Banqup Business Account. You can choose which if you have multiple accounts.

  • Choose meaningful names for easy tracking.

*Unlimited is subject to fair usage. Abusive patterns may result in limitations.

Physical cards are typically delivered within 5 business days.

Can I start using a virtual card immediately?

Yes, virtual cards are available for use as soon as they're created.

Can I have both physical and virtual cards?

Yes, you can combine both types based on your needs.
