Understanding Banqup Tax Validation

Written by Maxime

Banqup Tax Validation checks the tax treatment of each invoice line against codified tax rules and shows you the rule behind every result. This article explains the three ways to use it and how to get started with each one.

What Banqup Tax Validation checks

An e-invoice can pass every format check and still carry the wrong tax. Banqup Tax Validation looks at the tax treatment itself:

  • where the transaction is taxed (the place of supply)

  • who has to pay the VAT, the seller or the buyer

  • whether a zero rate, a reduced rate or the standard rate applies

  • how much of the VAT can be deducted

Every result shows the rule that was applied and the rate used. The same details always give the same result, so you can explain each outcome to your clients.

Good to know: Banqup Tax Validation is tax determination software. It applies published tax rules and shows its reasoning. It is not tax advice: the decision on a specific transaction stays with you or with your client's adviser.

Choosing the right option

All three options use the same tax rules. They differ in how many transactions you check and how you connect.

Getting started with the Tax Simulator

The Tax Simulator is the quickest way to start. You add it to your space yourself and can use it straight away, without any setup.

  1. Click your space name at the top right, then Settings.

  2. Under Administration, click Extensions.

  3. Click Discover more to go to the Banqup Store.

  4. Search for Tax Simulator and open it.

  5. Click Install to add it to your space.

  6. To open the Tax Simulator, click See all apps at the bottom of the sidebar, then Tax simulator.

You can also reach the Banqup Store by clicking See all apps at the bottom of the sidebar, then Explore Banqup Store.

In the simulator, choose Sales transaction or Purchase transaction, the seller and buyer countries and the product, then click Calculate. The simulator shows the tax treatment and the rule behind it.

Good to know: The Tax Simulator only shows a result. It does not create, send or change any invoice.

Pricing

The Tax Simulator costs 100 EUR per month, excluding VAT. During the launch period, it is available at 50 EUR per month, excluding VAT.

The price of Tax Scan and Tax Connect depends on your volume and set-up. Our sales team gives you a quote.

Getting Tax Scan or Tax Connect

Tax Scan and Tax Connect are set up together with you, because the tax rules are adapted to your own products and invoices. This takes longer than adding an app, so contact us well before you need it.

To get started, send an email to our sales team at [email protected]. To help them prepare, include:

  • which option you are interested in (Tax Scan or Tax Connect)

  • roughly how many invoices or invoice lines you want to check

  • which countries your transactions involve

  • for Tax Connect, which invoicing or accounting system you use

Our sales team then contacts you to plan the next steps. During the set-up, our tax team stays in close contact with you and gives you an initial training. Once everything is set up, you can adapt the tax rules to your products in the Tax configuration app.

For Tax Connect, your technical team can already read Getting started with the tax calculation service on the Banqup developer portal, where the API is documented under its technical name, the Tax Service.
